Heatsticks are specially prepared tobacco sticks that are heated in the GLO™ device, releasing an aerosol containing nicotine and the flavor of tobacco or flavorings. They are made from processed tobacco (with real nicotine), which, when heated, produces flavor and a nicotine aerosol, but without the traditional combustion and smoke of cigarettes. The heating temperature is typically significantly lower than the combustion temperature of a regular cigarette—around 240°C—which affects the aerosol composition. These heatsticks cannot be lit or used like regular cigarettes, as this will result in unpleasant burning of the coating and possible toxic products.
Formats and Compatibility
GLO™ heatsticks come in several formats—it’s important to choose the right one for your specific device:
Nano Format – slightly thinner and shorter, designed for more compact devices (e.g., glo Pro).
💡 N.B. The wrong stick size may not fit and may not work or damage the device.
Flavors and Options
The range of sticks is quite wide and includes both regular tobacco flavors and and numerous aroma types.
Tobacco flavors:
Flavored / Aromatized flavors
There are fruity, menthol, and other aromatic sticks (for example, the aggressive berry “Blast” flavors). The selection may vary by region and market.
Popularity and Markets
Following the launch of GLO™ in 2016–2017, British American Tobacco quickly expanded the product into key global markets. Japan has become the largest market. Here, HTPs account for a third of the entire tobacco market, and GLO is competing for a place alongside the leader IQOS.
In Europe, GLO is present in almost every country—Italy and Romania were among the first, followed by expansion in Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Switzerland. Europe accounts for the majority of GLO’s sales and a growing consumer base.
In North America, GLO is present in Canada and part of the US, but the market is more strictly regulated, so growth there is moderate. The remaining regions—Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa—are small but developing markets.
As a result, GLO is present in over 20 markets, with the largest share in Asia and Europe, and is gradually expanding its presence in North America and other regions.
Glo™ sticks differ from regular cigarettes primarily in the way they produce nicotine and smoke. Here are the main differences.
1. Heating instead of burning
The main difference is the technology. In a regular cigarette, tobacco burns at approximately 800–900°C. In the glo™ system, the tobacco in the stick is heated to approximately 240°C but does not burn. This produces an aerosol (vapor) rather than tobacco smoke.
2. No smoke or ash
Since the tobacco does not burn, there is no ash and no real smoke. The odor is usually less strong and disappears more quickly.
3. Different design
A glo™ stick resembles a short cigarette, but its internal structure is different:
4. The taste is different
Since there is no combustion, many of the flavor components that occur when tobacco burns are absent. The taste is usually milder and less "smoky."
5. Content of harmful substances
The aerosol typically contains fewer toxic substances than cigarette smoke (although nicotine is still present and the product is not harmless).
Yes, glo neo sticks contain real tobacco. The stick contains specially processed ground tobacco, as well as additional components, such as:
Glo™ sticks differ from other tobacco heating system sticks in their design and heating technology features.
1. Specifically designed for glo™ devices
Glo™ sticks are made exclusively for glo devices and optimized for their heating method, so they are not compatible with other tobacco heating systems like IQOS or Ploom.
2. Different heating method
In glo™ devices, the tobacco is heated externally by the walls of the heating chamber, rather than by an internal blade or metal element inside the stick.
3. Different tobacco structure
Glo™ sticks use pressed tobacco leaves, while some other sticks may use granulated tobacco or blends with humectants, which can affect the taste and feel of the stick.
4. Filter and cooling features
Glo™ sticks include a special cooling element that lowers the aerosol temperature while providing minimal filtration, giving a fuller flavor than some other sticks.
